James Loynes, M.D.

Chief Executive Officer, Chart-MD

James Loynes, M.D., is Chief Executive Officer of Chart-MD, a comprehensive online resource that improves communication between physicians and patients. Chart-MD provides web-based tools to facilitate patient-centered care, improve efficiency, apply the latest technology, and promote patient compliance through communication. The Chart-MD solutions are designed to enable patients to become more involved in their healthcare.

This is not Dr. Loynes’ first success story. In 2000, he co-developed a web site called Flash-Med.com as a way to teach medical students through the use of electronic flash cards. The site now has over 19,000 members and serves over 1.5 million pages a month. After witnessing how the medical community embraces technology, Dr. Loynes developed the idea that eventually became Chart-MD.

Dr. Loynes envisioned Chart-MD as a way to improve patient care by involving patients in their medical decisions. The technology optimizes physician efficiency while documenting and communicating information to patients. Chart-MD provides the tools that allow patients to work with their physicians to become engaged participants in their health care.

Since its inception, Chart-MD has evolved into an easy to use, efficient and powerful resource. Chart-MD is group of web sites utilizing the latest technology to serve as a platform through which patients can take an active role in their medical care. Dr. Loynes believes that health care can be improved by taking a patient-centered approach. He designed these resources to be efficient for the physician to provide improved patient care through improved communication and documentation without unreasonable cost or significantly increased work for the physician. Some serve as a platform through which patients can take an active role in their medical care and serve as their own advocates, while others allow physicians to use inexpensive technologies to improve healthcare processes. Dr. Loynes continues to enhance each site to create value for all users.

Dr. Loynes is a medical oncologist and hematologist in Virginia. Before joining his practice in 2003, he completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire and his residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.

Dr. Loynes received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the Medical University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of Charleston. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology.
